BettyBush

On October 28th, RKCC lost one of its most valuable members. A life member and one of our most successful skips, Betty’s name is on two banners and numerous trophies. Few people in Kingston have an Ontario jacket. Betty has two. Her achievements in bonspiels in our area and further afield are well known.

That’s not the whole story of Betty. Many of our beginner curlers have benefitted from her mentoring. She served on the Board of Directors many times as well as various Committees over the years. Organizing bonspiels and golf tournaments, buying prizes, all seemed to be taken in stride. She was instrumental in starting to organize the history of our club. Many charities, Almost Home and the Alzheimer’s Society to name two, were helped by her generosity. Rest in peace my friend. You will be greatly missed.

On November 13th, RKCC lost another of its most valuable members - Bill Duffe. Friend, fellow curler and kitchen-mate, Jim Lesley, offers a few words...

"Bill, what you and Brian Collingwood established & accomplished in the kitchen of RKCC will never be forgotten, and will always be appreciated. The concept of the Monday luncheon program was (and remains) ingenious. The countless hours you contributed to bonspiels, both cooking for and organizing, is going to be hard to replace.

Our joint involvement with making apple crisp for many RKCC events was pure fun and joy! Many curlers called it "famous" - we reffered to it as "Les Duff". The kidding, shouting and name calling made it somehow more special (I never knew that being called an "A-Hole" could be considered a term of endearment). And, every time you picked up apples you clumsily dropped to the floor and tried to add them back to the crisp, I would have to remind you to rely on cinnamon for seasoning instead!
